In the 18th Century Mai Bauya’s successor also known as Mai Awanyi established Pataskum later as his headquarters. The core validation of this is to develop trade and markets with other communities as well as upholding the traditional philosophy and the structure of his council. This brings the present Potiskum (Pataskum) to have one of the largest cattle market in West Africa and other established markets that bring farmers and traders together from nearby villages.
